One sauce that I absolutely love is savoury yogurt. I would have never thought about adding salt to yogurt until a few years ago, during a trip to Istanbul, I tried savoury yogurt. People in Turkey are incredibly fond of this yogurt and this sauce. I have to confess I am too.
It is a very healthy option and super quick and easy to prepare at home. I like it with many different dishes: meat, potatoes and salads, for example. Today, I’ll use it in this starter, with roasted cherry tomatoes.
This version is a little different from the original Turkish recipe, which includes garlic, salt and olive oil. I’ve replaced garlic with za’atar, a delicious spice mixture that I’ve posted about on the blog before.
200 gr of natural yougurt, I’ve used a brand called Pastoret that I bought at Gadis Supermercados.
Salt
Extra virgin olive oil
Optional: a few drops of lime juice and fresh herbs
METHOD
Roast the cherry tomatoes with a bit of salt and olive oil for 20 minutes at 150ºC and then remove from the oven. Put the drained yogurt in a bowl, add salt to taste and a generous dash of olive oil. Now add the za’atar a combine thoroughly.
Transfer this mix on a plate, place the cherry tomatoes on top, add some more za’atar, some fresh herbs (I used clover) and serve.
You can have this as a starter or as a side dish. Buon appetito!
